Hearing Colors is a contemplative exhibition designed to evoke gentle resonance and sensory spaciousness within the healing environment of a hospital—where sight and sound, emotion and restoration intersect.
Haeree Cho’s work begins with a deep appreciation for the structure and temporality of traditional Korean music—its melodic framework, the ordered system of jeongganbo notation, and the essence of gugak. Rooted in years of dedicated study, her practice approaches tradition with respect, while reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens.
Her compositions are minimal in form and abstract in motif, with a modern sense of balance applied to her use of color and spatial arrangement—preserving the depth of tradition with quiet sophistication.
Within her canvases, silent music flows. In that rhythm, viewers find a gentle space to breathe and rest.
Presented in a place of care and recovery, Hearing Colors invites visitors to experience painting as a form of listening—offering a moment of emotional release and quiet restoration.
〈색을 듣다 – Hearing Colors〉는 시각과 청각, 감성과 회복이 교차하는 병원 공간에서 잔잔한 울림과 감각의 여백을 전하고자 기획되었습니다.
조해리 작가의 작업은 국악의 선율 구조와 시간성, 정간보의 질서 등 한국 전통음악의 형식과 본질에 대한 면밀한 관찰과
깊은 감상에서 출발합니다.
작가는 오랜 시간 ‘전통’의 곁에서, 공부하고 파고들며, 그 본질을 가볍지 않게 다루되, ‘오늘’의 감각으로 새롭게 풀어냅니다. 형태는 간결하고 모티프는 추상화되어 있으며, 색의 운용과 화면의 구성은 전통의 깊이를 유지한 채 현대적으로 정돈되어 있습니다.
화면 속 조용한 음악은 소리 없이 흐르고, 그 흐름 속에서 우리는 각자의 리듬으로 조용히 숨을 고르게 됩니다.
《색을 듣다》는 병원이라는 치유의 장소에서, 방문객에게 ‘듣는 그림’이라는 새로운 감각을 선사하며 감정의 환기와 이완을 제공합니다.
