When the Heart Stays

When the Heart Stays seeks to offer a moment in which viewers, at the threshold of the season moving toward summer, can momentarily set aside their own emotions and remain in stillness.
Through the works of four artists—Lee Kangso, Shim Moonseup, Do Yun-hee, and Lillian Martinez—each possessing distinct sensibilities and sculptural languages, the exhibition proposes emotional depth and inner peace.

Lee Kangso reveals vitality and energy on the surface through simple brushstrokes in which body, light, and emotion become one.
At the same time, his paintings, which encompass matter and gesture as well as minimalism, quietly contain deep energy, directly engaging the inner world of the viewer.

Shim Moonseup expresses the spirit (氣) that transcends the boundaries of sculpture and painting through painterly extensions that originate from the temporality and circulation of the sea.
The repeated brushstrokes evoke the rhythm of waves, metaphorically conveying the potential of life and the expansive nature of the natural world.

Do Yun-hee sensitively addresses what is unseen and the other side of existence through processes of repetitive accumulation.
In her work Snow is Falling, Light is Broken Down, layers of repeated gestures and the addition of gold leaf lend a contemplative depth, presenting a quiet space in which the viewer’s emotions may come to rest.

Lillian Martinez awakens a sense of rest through figurative images that capture tranquil park scenes and moments of leisure in everyday life.
Through the combination of popular cultural sensibilities and color, her works allow viewers to experience emotional stability and a sense of recovery through the figures depicted on the canvas.
