Walk. See

Artist Eom Jeongsoon’s work begins with a single question. “What does it mean to see.” Using the elephant as a metaphor, the artist asks what we believed we were seeing, and what we were made not to see. The history of the first elephant that entered the Korean Peninsula in the 15th century and was later rejected, and the journey of the elephant that wandered after being used as a diplomatic tool, are scenes that reveal the ways in which power and symbols operate. Through this enormous being, the artist allows us to see the world in a broader and larger, different perspective.

For over 25 years, the artist has worked together with people with visual impairments, practicing the idea that the “act of seeing” is not a matter of vision, but a matter of senses and relationships. Even now, without limiting the gaze to people alone, the work poses a question about how we see the world and others. We are still flying and walking toward the world that we are looking at.
